If you thought for one second that our TY programme had eased up as we approach the end of the year, then you are in for a surprise! TYs are as busy as ever!

As you may have seen on our Facebook page, our TYs are currently undertaking a Creative Engagement project to create a beautiful outdoor reading space adjacent to the school library. The students are working so hard and we can’t wait to show you the final result!

On Wednesday 18th both TY classes welcomed speakers from Sonairte, a sustainable living centre in Laytown as part of their Environmental and Social Studies module. We hope the students will also have the chance to visit the centre in person! Thank you to Ms. Barron for organising this!

On Friday 20th six of our students – Barry, Vilte, Eve, Conor, Karolina & Lexi – represented Fingal CC as Prosper Fingal Ambassadors for the Making a Difference Award in recognition of their work with mentoring and fundraising. Well done guys!

Following on from the visit to the National Archaeology Museum and Walking Tour of Viking Dublin, students will complete their ‘Big Dig’ on Friday 27th April, followed by a trip to Glendalough on Monday 30th April.

Next week, several TY students will accompany 2nd-year students to the Gaeltacht in their capacity as Cara Mentors. Thank you to the Irish Department for facilitating this endeavour.

On Saturday 12th May, TY students will once again take part in the Darkness into Light fundraiser for Pieta House. This follows substantial fundraising for the organisation throughout the year to continue their invaluable work. We wish them all the best of luck! It is always a very moving but enjoyable event.

Below you can see our students following their involvement with the Sustainable Waste and Resource Management section of the Tidy Towns Competition.

TY students also worked with artist Anna Gilligan on a Youth Engagement project, discussing topics such ‘Swords Now and in the Future’, ‘What does Culture Mean to Me’ and ‘Our Space, Our Say’.

And all of this in such a short space of time! We have one of the most comprehensive Transition Year programmes around. Thank you to all of the individual teachers who organise initiatives for students that they would not have the opportunity to engage with other stages of their time in Fingal. A special thank you to TY Coordinator Ms. Lynch for overseeing all of this and much more!

TY Graduation will take place on 23rd May with a final trip to Tayto Park on 25th May. Well done on a great year everyone!
