Bhí sport agus spraoi i rith Seachtain na Gaeilge. There were numerous events throughout the two weeks with the culmination of the Irish quiz on Friday afternoon between 1st and 2nd Years.
Students were exposed to many aspects of the Irish culture and given the chance to use the “cúpla focail” outside the Irish classroom. All intercom messages were in Irish during the fortnight and even students introduced “frása an lae” (phrase of the day). The 1st Years organised a cake sale to raise funds for prizes. The school walls were decorated with vital phrases so that students could conduct the entire cake sale through the medium of Irish. Music, song and Irish dancing were incorporated into lessons and even one class managed to make pancakes on Pancake Tuesday as Gaeilge.
The Transition Years organised a table quiz on the very last day. Over two hundred students from 1st and 2nd Year battled it out with numerous rounds of general knowledge questions including sports, music and geography. There was a great atmosphere in the Hall as fear an tí Mr O’Riordáin got the crowd going. In the end the winning team were Alicja (1st Yr), Kacper (2nd Yr), Tomasz W (1st Yr), Tomasz K(2nd Yr)and Richards(2nd Yr).
Well done to all the Irish teachers and staff who made Seachtain na Gaeilge such a success this year Remember Is fearr Gaeilge bhriste ná Béarla cliste.
