College For Every Student 2016

Fingal Community College celebrated another hugely successful ‘College Awareness Week’ this year. After being awarded the title of 21st Century School of Distinction last year, all staff and students were keen to retain the title and make the event even bigger. Going Beyond the Pale

On Thursday, the 22nd of September, Transition Year students, 6th Year Agricultural Science and Construction students went to the annual National Ploughing Championships in Tullamore, Co. Offaly. Although it was a long bus journey, students kept themselves entertained with music and banter along the way. On arrival, students quickly realised the importance of the wellie boots! Jim Breen and Jessica It was a pretty big deal for our school to apply to participate in the Student Leaders Congress, especially our student council. It was the first time Fingal Community College really put a strong emphasis on positive mental health and asking for help if you need it. Applying to be an Ambassador School encouraged teachers and the students to talk about these issues and to share Cycle Against Suicides' message. Banter, Blisters and Fond Memories

Day 1 (Triacastela - Sarria)  Twenty seven students and three teachers started on their Camino adventure on the 27th of April 2016 with their bags packed and with happy faces we all set off to tackle this challenge ahead of us. 1916 Remembered in FCC

Fingal Community College joined in the national commemorations of 1916 by hosting several events throughout the year. The History Department spent many months planning and organising events such as the Raising of the Flag, a Drama and Musical Concert, participation in the Fingal 1916 parade, Art Competitions, Creative Arts Workshops, debates and many more. Newly composed poems and songs were written by many talented students also. Throughout the year the History noticeboard was updated with newspaper articles, photographs and maps concerned with the 1916 Rising. Hallelujah in the National Concert Hall

The school choir participated in the Dublin and Dún Laoghaire ETB Festival of Music on Monday, 7th March. The event took place in the National Concert Hall. It was a showcase of the many talented students in Fingal Community College and surrounding schools. The choir worked very hard in the preparation for the event with two or three rehearsals a week as well as some Saturdays. The Festival of Music has been running since 1999 and always promises to be an extremely entertaining and eventful night. A Big Thank You

2nd Years chatting and enjoying their lunch. On Friday the 29th of January, students, teachers and parents were treated to a sit down lunch as a celebration of the wonderful efforts made by all at a recent Parents’ Association fundraising activity. A massive €3,381 was raised before Christmas at the annual bag packing event in Dunnes Stores in the Pavilion, Swords. The money raised will go towards the promotion of Healthy Lifestyles and the development of the extensive extra-curricular programme available at the college.
