The school choir participated in the Dublin and Dún Laoghaire ETB Festival of Music on Monday, 7th March. The event took place in the National Concert Hall. It was a showcase of the many talented students in Fingal Community College and surrounding schools. The choir worked very hard in the preparation for the event with two or three rehearsals a week as well as some Saturdays. The Festival of Music has been running since 1999 and always promises to be an extremely entertaining and eventful night. This year was no different and Fingal Community College was very proud to have two solo acts perform on the night. Eve from Second Year sang ‘Out Here on My Own’ accompanied by Aaliyah on the piano. Both girls also performed a rendition of ‘Shake It Out‘ as part of a group act with Chloe (vocals, guitar), Hannah (vocals, ukulele) Olivia (vocals) and Unai (cajun drum). The night was hosted by Liz Nolan from Lyric FM who has been the resident host of the Festival of Music over the past few years. The concert provided entertainment for all, displaying a huge range of musical styles and genres throughout the night. The choir sang Hallelujah from Handel’s Messiah, a medley from Phantom of the Opera, Colours of the Wind and May We Never Have to Say Goodbye. The school choir performed in the school on Tuesday, 15th March, Proclamation Day and at a special celebratory concert the following day reflecting on the Easter Rising 1916. Two students; Chloe and Moses wrote songs to celebrate the centenary. These songs have been entered into a competition which gives the students another chance to perform in the National Concert Hall again in the near future.
