Our Green Schools committee is a very active group within Fingal CC led by Ms. Arthurs and Ms. Memery. The students are currently working on earning the second flag which is the Energy Flag.

As part of working towards achieving this second flag, Green Schools are promoting steps that can be taken to reduce energy consumption as well as raising awareness of climate change issues.

Green Schools is a community-wide approach to stewardship of the planet, and as such there are lots of small steps students and parents can take to reduce energy consumption in the home. Take a look!

  • Switch off or unplug any chargers or appliances you don’t need on (including switches on sockets)

  • Use energy efficient light bulbs

  • Washing clothes at a lower temperature will use less electricity

  • Seal any draughts that may be in your home to reduce energy spent on heating

  • Insulating your home can save you money. on heating costs (grants available)

  • Check the energy label to make sure you’re buying an efficient product (should be A grade)

  • Stop standby power waste
