World Heritage Day 2018

On Wednesday 21st Match, as part of Wellbeing Week, Fingal CC hosted a World Heritage Event in the school hall. This event, organized by Ms. Rooney on behalf of the Wellbeing Committee, saw students celebrate and promote their identity and culture within Fingal CC.

Students were invited to apply for a ‘stall in the hall’ to promote their heritage. The students who took part displayed national flags, photographs, and phrases in their native languages, as well as objects from their country such as money (Swiss Francs), passports, dolls (Russia) and books (Germany).

Many cultural delicacies were on offer, from ‘crisp sambos’ (Ireland) to stir fries (Philippines) and spicy beef and rice (Ghana), while some students also donned their native dress (Nigeria).  Throughout the event, music from each country was played to complement the activities.

Students from 1st to 6th year were invited to the hall to visit each stall and learn more about the many nationalities that Fingal CC is home to.

Overall the following countries were represented: Lithuania, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Philippines, Ghana, Russia, Moldova, Algeria, Suriname, Nigeria, South Africa, Italy, Ireland, and Croatia.

We hope that next year’s event will be even bigger and better with more nationalities and include some performances such as traditional dance!
