IT Carlow Open Day Debating Competition

On Thursday 16th November three of our students Rhys Mahony (5th year), Patrick Ferris (5th Year) and Eve Mongey (TY) travelled to participate in the IT Carlow Open Day Debating Competition. This one day competition, in conjunction with their Open Day event, was sponsored by the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland and promised a cash prize of 500euro for the winner and 250euro for the runner-up. The debate competition was organised by the IT Carlow Department of the Built Environment and as such, the motions for debate were construction-focused. Green Schools: Saving the Planet One Flag at a Time!

Our Green Schools committee is a very active group within Fingal CC led by Ms. Arthurs and Ms. Memery. The students are currently working on earning the second flag which is the Energy Flag. As part of working towards achieving this second flag, Green Schools are promoting steps that can be taken to reduce energy consumption as well as raising awareness of climate change issues. Science Week Quiz 2017 Science Week 2017 has officially hit Fingal CC. You may have noticed some fantastic additions to our Science noticeboards with fascinating facts and amazing artwork related to our Solar System! CFES School of Dinstinction 2016/2017

On Friday 6th October Fingal Community College attended an award ceremony in Trinity College Dublin for the College for Every Student programme. For the second year running (2015/2016 & 2016/2017), Fingal CC was awarded the 21st Century 'School of Distinction'. The CFES programme aims to prepare students for progression to college through three pillars - Mentoring, Leadership through Service and Pathways to College and Career. Ms. Lynch, on behalf of Fingal CC, accepted the award from Minister Bruton. Concern Debates Workshop

On Wednesday 27th September four of our students - Cristina (5th Year), Caitlin, Karolina and Vilte (all TY)  -attended the Concern Debates workshop in the Carmelite Community Centre. The students, members of Fingal's Debate Club, attended the workshop to learn the art of debating, as well as the format for the upcoming Concern Debates in which the school is participating. The school's first debate is a Home debate against St. Mary's Secondary School (Glasnevin) on Thursday October 12th. TY Carlingford 2017

Take a look at some of our images from the TY trip to Carlingford. The trip was an opportunity for students to make new friends and create new experiences together. Students participated in a range of water sports, high ropes, zip-lining, laser tag and many more team-building activities over the two days at Skypark and Carlingford Lough. The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and returned today to some fantastic Junior Certificate results. The trip was organised by TY coordinator and year head Ms Lynch. Students were accompanied by Ms Lynch and teachers Ms. Buffini and Mr Howley.

All Systems Go!

We are officially into our third week of teaching and learning in Fingal and already the school is a hive of activity! We would like to thank Ms. Lynch for once again organising the hugely successful Dunnes Stores Bag Pack which raised a fantastic €2639.79 for the school. Thank you to all of the teachers and students who also gave their time freely to make the bag pack such a success. TY Carlingford Trip

Our TY students set off for Carlingford this morning for a fantastic two-day adventure. The annual Carlingford trip is one of the highlights of the Transition Year programme here in Fingal Community College, proving to be not only a fun and active excursion, but also a great team-building exercise to start the year off on a positive and productive note. Thank you to TY coordinator Ms. Lynch and teachers Ms. Buffini and Mr. Howley for giving their time so generously to accompany the students.  We look forward to sharing with you all of the photos of this great trip!  

Wellbeing Lunch

   Fingal's Wellbeing "Pop-Up Restaurant" On Friday the 3rd of March, students, teachers and parents of Fingal Community College were treated to a sit down lunch as a celebration of the wonderful efforts made by all at a recent Parents’ Association fundraising activity. A massive €7000 was raised before Christmas at two bag packing events in Dunnes Stores in the Pavilion, Swords. The money raised has/will go towards the promotion of Healthy Lifestyles and the development of the extensive extra-curricular programme available at the college. On Friday the 17th of February, students and teachers from Fingal Community College turned their school orange for mental health awareness as part of Cycle Against Suicide’s #SchoolsGoOrange day. Fingal Community College celebrated another hugely successful ‘College Awareness Week’ this year. After being awarded the title of 21st Century School of Distinction last year, all staff and students were keen to retain the title and make the event even bigger.
